Gozo D.O.K ‘Riserva’
Barrel Fermented Chardonnay
This barrique-fermented Chardonnay is produced from hand-picked grapes from the Ta’ Mena Vineyards in the Ramla Valley. The micro climate of this valley and the vicinity of the vineyards to the Mediterranean Sea render this Chardonnay very particular. The so called ‘Island Effect’ characterised by traces of sea salt, is very present in this wine.
It is fermented in new French Oak Barrels and then left to mature for six months in the same barrels to produce a full bodied Chardonnay with hints of tropical fruit and vanilla. After bottling it is left to mature in our cellars for a minimum of another 18 months before it is released on the market.
The soft oak taste character renders it to be considered as a white wine with a red wine structure. In fact this wine can be aged for about ten years.
It is best served at 10°C and is a must with rich fish and white meat dishes.
